Achieving Performance Excellence

This week I spent time with the board and executive team reviewing the key aspects of our Safety, Health and Environment management system and we will get the opportunity to discuss this with colleagues during upcoming Safety tours around the business. We also received the good news that we have achieved the top Platinum Award in the annual Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey 2016. This Survey is a great way to help us achieve more sustainable ways of doing business and this latest result shows how we continue to improve our environmental management system. I would like to congratulate all of you - especially our Tidy Translink Champions along with Andy Bate and Philip Reid - who keep environmental sustainability at the core of our business practice.

Every day we strive to deliver outstanding service across all aspects of our business and I was pleased to join some colleagues at a customer service training session this week. Official industry awards are a good way to benchmark our performance against other leading organisations and it was encouraging that our Metro and Goldline 212 services were shortlisted as finalists in the UK Bus Awards. Although not achieving an outright award, it was a great opportunity to learn from other leading organisations which will help us to continually improve our customer service.

I would also like to say well done to our Communications, Digital Services and Social Media Teams who recently picked-up 3 awards at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations PRide Awards. Our innovative #MetroLegends PR Campaign won Gold in both the ‘Corporate and Business Communications’ and ‘Best Use of Digital’ categories. In addition, we won Silver for our #GetOnBoardNI campaign that promoted our inaugural Bus+Train Week. We faced plenty of high profile competitors across these categories so this success is testament to our outstanding level of communications expertise.

This week we re-opened the Derry~Londonderry Railway Line following recent closure to facilitate testing and commissioning of the new upgraded signalling system. Extensive track engineering work has been carried out alongside driver training and rail signaller training using a new state-of-the-art simulator based in Coleraine. Thanks to everyone involved in delivering this major project and providing the bus substitution during the line closure; we continue to make good progress and are due to be substantially complete by the end of the year.
