Great Victoria Street/Grosvenor Road/Howard Street Junction Improvement Works

25 June 2024

As part of the Belfast Grand Central Station project, there will be significant investment in public realm improvement works around the new station to enhance walking routes, accessibility and cycling.

Our contractor, GRAHAM, will be installing temporary footpath extensions and enhancements to crossings at the Great Victoria Street/Grosvenor Road/Howard Street junction to cater for the increase in pedestrians at this location.

These works will commence on Monday 1st July and will last for a period of around 12 weeks.
To facilitate the widened footpath, adjacent to the Fitzwilliam Hotel on Great Victoria Street and Grosvenor Road, the existing left turn lane from Great Victoria Street onto Grosvenor Road will be removed.

As part of these works, an enhanced 6m wide pedestrian crossing on Great Victoria Street will facilitate safer and easier crossing for the increased number of pedestrians.

It is anticipated that lane and footpath closures will be required to complete this work. Traffic management measures will be in place in the area, and we would ask pedestrians and road users to follow the signage.
Translink is continuing to encourage people to consider using public transport to access the city during these public realm works as road users may expect some delays.

Translink would like to take this opportunity to thank the general public for their patience during these essential works.
