 Travel Reminders for The 153rd Open from Sunday 13 to Sunday 20 July 2025

  • We are reminding anyone heading to Portrush (13-20 July) to plan your travel in advance and leave extra time for journeys.
  • Customers should expect services to be very busy throughout the week. 
  • Following high demand, there is still some availability left for special services to Portrush - check below for details & online bookings.  
  • Golf fans can also choose from a range of normal timetabled bus, coach and rail services to Portrush – download the Translink Journey Planner App to plan your travel. 
  • Please ensure you also plan your return journey home in advance and leave plenty of time for travel as services will be busy.
  • Passengers travelling on our bus and rail specials must travel on their pre-booked services.
  • Arrive at stations 30 minutes before departure time. A queuing system will be in place and seating will be available on a first come, first served basis with additional standing room available. 
  • If possible, anyone not attending the golf should travel by train to Portrush after 10.00am. 
  • Due to large numbers travelling on services, there will be limited space for bags, buggies, bicycles or any other bulky items.  
  • On Saturday 19 July evening, the local 140 service maybe subject to diversions. 
  • Passengers using the Ulsterbus 402 service (Coleraine - Ballycastle) are reminded that service frequency is enhanced from early morning until 6.15pm this week with 2 additional late night services at 8.15pm and 9.15pm departing Portrush  -  please download the Translink Journey Planner App or plan your journey at www.translink.co.uk to check timetables and plan your travel.

Travel By Bus To and From The 153rd Open

To and From Belfast  

218 service will operate a normal timetable, departing from Laganside Buscentre, Belfast.

From Derry~Londonderry  

234 service will operate a normal timetable from Derry~Londonderry to Coleraine, serving Limavady with onward Portrush bus connection.

Local Services To and From Coleraine 

The 140 triangle service will operate a 5 minute frequency from Monday 14 July 2025 until Sunday 20 July 2025 . This service operates between Coleraine Buscentre, and Portrush and back to Coleraine Buscentre. 

From 14 -16 July, the 140 service will run from 5.50am - 11pm and on the Thursday to Sunday (17-20 July), the service will be extended to run at 11.30pm and midnight from Portrush via Portstewart to Coleraine.

402 rambler service Coleraine to Ballycastle will operate a 20 minute frequency with additional early and late services.  

There will be two additional services at 06.00 and 07.00 (from Ballycastle) and two additional services concluding at 20.15 and 21.15 (from Portrush).

Spectators can avail of timetabled rail services to get to Royal Portrush for the 153rd Open.

  • A Saturday Timetable will operate Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19 July Networkwide on NI Railways Services. A revised Sunday timetable will operate on Sunday 20 July
  • An enhanced timetable will operate on the Londonderry~Derry and Portrush Lines
  • Passengers should follow onboard instructions for if they need to change at Coleraine for timetabled services to Portrush and returning to Belfast Grand Central Station

21 July  

  • A normal Monday to Friday timetable will resume across NI Railways

Introducing... The T Zone!

As Northern Ireland prepares to welcome the return of The Open Championship next month, Translink has announced plans to host a free, family-friendly fan zone at Belfast Grand Central Station during the prestigious four-day tournament.

From 17th–20th July, the station’s mezzanine level will be transformed into The T Zone – a vibrant public space featuring interactive golf-themed activities, including mini golf, chipping challenges, giveaways, music, and much more.

Designed to capture the excitement around The Open, The T Zone offers something enjoyable for commuters, visitors and event-goers alike whilst encouraging a cleaner, greener way to travel.
