Eco Schools

A Recognised International Award Scheme

Eco-Schools is a recognised International award scheme, rewarding and accrediting schools who have made a commitment to continuously improving their environmental performance. It is also a learning resource, raising awareness of environmental issues through activities that link to curriculum subjects.

The aim of the Eco-Schools programme is to make environmental awareness and actions an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school and also the wider community, both for pupils, staff as well as parents and carers.

The Translink Eco Schools Travel Challenge supports Translink’s Let’s Change Together Campaign to encourage school aged children to make changes towards greater climate action!  Get on Board Today!

The Travel Challenge

Translink and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful joined forces again this year to get schools involved in this Eco-schools project and in particular to look at the Transport theme. Schools that have successfully completed all the elements of the programme are awarded the 'Green-Flag'. This award has now become a well-recognised Eco-Label and has to be renewed every two years.

The challenge raises awareness on the impact of transport on the environment and demonstrates the benefits of using sustainable transport. Challenge resources provide schools with a range of engaging activities to complete.  With greater emphasis on the climate crisis globally this Challenge is a great way for schools to be resourced to address it in a positive and measurable way.

It's aimed at 11 - 25 year olds and explains Translink's actions to tackle climate change in a youth friendly way, giving participants a chance to have their say! Listen, learn, and act!

Set aside 30mins in a classroom or digital environment to get young people talking about sustainable efforts to tackle climate change.
