School Services

Translink in partnership with the Education Authority and under the guidance of the Department for Education, will not operate dedicated home to school transport services as normal from Monday 11th January until the February mid-term break.

Translink will continue to work closely with the Authority and schools to provide support for the small number of vulnerable and key workers’ children, who are eligible for transport assistance, who require transport over this period. These pupils can also use their school sessional passes on scheduled bus and train services where appropriate.

This announcement is in response to the latest NI Executive guidance to ‘stay at home - to stop the spread of Covid-19’.

Safeguarding Pupils

We expect that both scheduled timetabled services and dedicated school services will be busy at peak times.   We’ve a range of safety measures in place to protect everyone, including young people travelling to school this September.

Face Coverings

  • It is now mandatory for all post primary pupils to wear a face covering at all times when travelling on all forms of public and school transport. We also strongly encourage younger pupils to wear a face covering as well.
  • This new guidance applies to:
    • All dedicated home to school transport
    • All normal scheduled bus and train services Medical and SEN exemptions apply
  • Most people are already wearing a face covering when travelling on public transport with over 85% compliance. This decision has been taken to further help reduce the number of Covid19 cases within the community.
