Improvements and Projects

Marino Station Access Project

Completion Update

Translink has successfully completed improvement works at Marino Train Station as part of our continued investment in Northern Ireland’s railway network through the Better. Connected strategy.

This project marks another important milestone in our commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable, and accessible public transport for all.

In line with this commitment, Translink is also undertaking the Rail Halt Accessibility Assessment Project, which will review all current facilities across our network to ensure they are accessible for everyone.

As a vital public service, we remain dedicated to supporting the economic, social, and environmental wellbeing of Northern Ireland by helping people stay connected to employment, education, retail, social, and leisure opportunities.

Project Completion Highlights

We are pleased to confirm the completion of new ramp access and associated lighting enhancements from Marino Station Road to the Bangor-bound platform. The ramp will officially open to the public on Friday, 20th June 2025.

These improvements have been designed to enhance accessibility for all passengers and contribute to a more inclusive and connected transport network.

Key benefits of the completed project include:

  • Improved step-free access to the Bangor-bound platform.
  • Enhanced lighting for increased safety and visibility.
  • Continued Translink investment in public transport infrastructure to support a greener, more sustainable future.

Community Engagement and Future Enhancements

Throughout the project, we worked closely with local residents and stakeholders to ensure regular communication and involvement. We appreciate the valuable feedback received, including suggestions for an art project to enhance the station environment.

We are committed to continuing this collaboration as we look to further improve the ramp and surrounding area. While we are still in the early stages of this process, funding for the art project has been secured within Translink. We are currently engaging with a local community-based art group and will continue to ensure broad community input into the final plans.

To reflect the local architectural heritage, the finished ramp structure features a red brick wall. Although hedging and fencing were considered during design, the site's topography meant these elements were ultimately not feasible without compromising accessibility or structural reliability.

Thank You

We would like to sincerely thank the local community for their patience and support throughout the duration of the works. Every effort was made to minimise disruption, with no impact on train services, and Marino Station remained fully accessible at all times.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to deliver a better, more accessible railway for everyone. Together, we are helping make public transport the first choice for travel – today and for tomorrow.
