Derry ~ Londonderry Train Station Consultation

"public support for the historic Waterside Train Station site"
21st March 2014

Dear Colleagues,

Last Spring, we started a public consultation inviting members of the public to provide their views on options for a potential new train station in Derry~Londonderry.

There has been considerable investment in the railway line in the North West over recent years securing the long term future and sustainability of the Derry~Londonderry railway line.

To build on these developments and increasing passenger numbers, we wanted to explore the feasibility of providing a modern new train station for the city.

We provided several options for a potential new station and public response showed strong support for the facility to be located at the existing historic Waterside Train Station site.

This week, the Regional Development Minister set out his ambitions for a 'new integrated transport hub' that would assist with the regeneration of the city. The facility would link directly to the Peace Bridge and existing greenways, catering for cycling and walking.

This project is at a very early stage and delivery will be subject to securing funding but we welcome the Minister's plans and will be working closely with his Department to develop the scope of this exciting project.

Last night Translink picked up the award in the Green Mover category at the Irish Logistics and Transport Awards. These all-island awards recognised the significant achievements we have made in managing our impact on the environment, whilst delivering efficient passenger transport services. We were also one of the top five scoring companies from the over one hundred entrants in the awards. Congratulations to all who contributed to this great achievement.
