COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIPS

As part of our ongoing sponsorship programme Translink has supported a wide range of community, youth and tourism events and initiatives across Northern Ireland.

These events include Derry Halloween Festival, Castlerock Walk Fest, Whitehead Victorian Street Fayre, Portrush’s Swell Festival, and Street Talk by the Playhouse in Derry~Londonderry. These projects have promoted public transport as a sustainable travel option and helped bolster community engagement and boost local tourism.  

Getting Chatty

Chatty Carriages
A pilot scheme to host a Chatty Carriage was held in December to help build connections and tackle loneliness. The special journey hosted in conjunction with the Causeway Loneliness Network was socially engaging event aimed at helping those who may be isolated to feel more confident at using services and helping them build friendships and community connections.

Chatty Chairs
Chatty Chairs were introduced within Translink stations with designated seats marked with stickers to encourage people to connect, have a chat, combat loneliness and promote good mental health. Teaming up with the Stephen Clements Foundation, the initiative was used as part of World Mental Health Day to promote the message ‘it’s good to talk’.

Belfast City Marathon and half Marathon

Translink continued its support as the Official Transport Partner of the Mash Direct Belfast City Marathon and Half Marathon. In 2022 the marathon celebrated its 40th year with almost 14,000 participants taking part across a range of entry levels, from full marathon, relay team and 8 mile walk.

Translink helped participants get to the start line with extra services and regular shuttle buses.

The event promoted public transport as a healthy, active travel option and a sustainable and environmentally friendly transport choice.

Belfast Feile

As part of Translink’s support of Feile Belfast we sponsored the recent Teddy Bears Picnic family event and hosted Music on Metro and Gigs on Glider activity, promoting wider use of public transport as a sustainable and cost-effective travel option.

Belfast Mela

Translink was proud to support Belfast Mela, the award-winning cultural project that works to develop intercultural relationships at the heart of the community and transforms communities through shared creative experiences. The 2022 Belfast Mela was enjoyed by 54,732 attendees and saw an economic impact of £15,21,822.

Derry Halloween Festival

Translink supported the 2022 festival with the addition of extra services and shuttle buses in place. This helped encourage more people to travel safely and sustainably to the four-day event, which saw more than 100,000 people visit and take part in the popular festival.

Eastside Arts Festival

In 2022 Translink supported the Eastside Arts Festival which offered a showcase of the extraordinary artists, venues, spaces and communities of east Belfast for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.

With great public transport links, including Glider, Metro and rail connections, the festival promoted active and sustainable travel choices to encourage visitors from right across Belfast and Northern Ireland.

GAA Young Volunteer of the Month

Celebrating youth community engagement, the annual GAA Young Volunteer of the month competition saw 57 entries submitted across seven monthly submission calls, with entries from every county area.

IFA Schools Cup

The 2022 Translink Schools Cup saw 528 pupils take part in the tournament 12-18. A total of 48 matches were played, representing over 120 hours of football and included schools from across Northern Ireland.

Open House Festival

Translink continued its long running support of Open House Festival, in Bangor, which plays an important role in contributing to the regeneration of Bangor through arts and culture and helps transform it into a thriving, vibrant modern seaside town.

The rail link between Bangor and Belfast is of historic significance to the town and the festival continues to promote public transport to the thousands of visitors who attend the series of festival events.

Our Place in Space

Translink was the official transport partner for Our Place in Space, an interactive, to-scale, solar system sculpture trail created by Northern Ireland artist, Oliver Jeffers and led by Nerve Centre.

The trail was first installed in Derry~Londonderry along the River Foyle. It then relocated to Belfast’s Divis Mountain. The trails were supported by shuttle buses from Translink to encourage more visitors to travel sustainably.

Designed to be accessible and inclusive to all, the trails brought people together through a mix of live events, digital and broadcast content and reached a combined audience of over 18 million.
