Translink has been pleased to donate approximately 100 bags of firewood to Glynn Community Association in East Antrim for distribution and use in the local community!

This wood is recovered material from recent essential tree management work undertaken close to the railway line in the Magheramorne area.  This work was deemed necessary to ensure the ongoing safety of the railway and those using it.  

Margaret Ferguson, Glynn Community Association, said: ‘‘We are very grateful to Translink for providing this firewood for free distribution and use in the Glynn and Magheramorne community.  It’s good to see the wood from local trees being returned for community use, helping to provide a source of warmth and fuel in many local homes over the coming weeks.’’

Graeme Pollock, Senior Programme Manager, Translink, said: “We are delighted to pass this wood on to the local community in Magheramorne and Glynn for distribution.  Safety is Translink’s top priority, and it is important to ensure that lineside trees are appropriately managed for rail and customer safety.  We are glad to be in a position to ensure that timber recovered from the safety works can be put to good use by local people ’’

Translink also works to plant trees to replace those that need to be felled on a ratio of at least 1:1.  As part of this commitment, around 30,000 native trees have been planted across sites close to Lisburn, Bangor, Antrim, and Ballymena in the past 18 months, including birch, rowan, cherry, hazel, and oak, and we are currently exceeding tree planting targets while continuing to seek locations and tree planting partners. 

Safety critical tree management work, part of a broader, network-wide programme undertaken by Translink, in association with McLaughlin and Harvey, our contractor, was carried out in the Magheramorne area of the Larne Line during late 2025.  More information on the project can be found online at www.translink.co.uk/treemanagement
