Moira Park & Ride

Plans are in progress to provide an enhanced, 400+ space Park and Ride facility close to Moira Train Station, significantly enhancing existing facilities in the area.

There has been considerable pressure on Park and Ride capacity in the Moira area in recent years, with a knock-on impact on nearby private property.  The proposed enhancements to Park and Ride provision will help to alleviate these issues.

Translink is proposing a Park and Ride facility including tarmacked parking area, landscaping, boundary fencing, CCTV and floodlighting (powered by solar panel array and associated battery storage building), cycle shelter building, storm water retention pond and the widening of Station Road to facilitate a right-hand turning lane into the site and footpath provision for pedestrian access to Moira Train Station at lands 65m north of the train station (between 4 and 4a Station Road and to the rear of 2 Station Road, Moira).

It is hoped that planning approval will be granted in the coming months for an enhanced facility to meet current and future parking demand at this important site.

Moira Train Station will not be affected by any potential works.  There will also be no inconvenience for drivers using the existing Park and Ride facility when work is underway.

As we look towards a post COVID-19 future, it is clear that public transport will have a critical role to play in a ‘green’ recovery, helping to ensure that sustainable transport options, including public transport, walking and cycling, become mainstream for everyone in the years ahead.

Public transport will be vital for the economic wellbeing of Northern Ireland, helping to connect communities with employment, education, healthcare, retail and leisure opportunities, as well as restoring vibrancy to our town and city centres and other districts.
