Travel Update

Important Project Updates

29 April 2025 - Temporary changes to pedestrian access

For one week, from Monday 5th May to Sunday 11th May it will not be possible to access Belfast Grand Central Station via the former Europa Buscentre concourse.

Pedestrians who use this route are advised to access Belfast Grand Central Station via Hope St, Great Victoria St and Glengall Street.

Signage will be in place to advise pedestrians.

This temporary closure is required by MRP developments who now manage the former Europa Buscentre concourse as part of the wider Weavers Cross Development.

This will facilitate enabling and fit out works for the new artisan food market and bar being introduced as a meanwhile use in the concourse area. This new city destination will be known as ‘Halt’.

Access to Great Northern Mall businesses will continue to be available via the Great Victoria St entrance.

Other routes to the station are unaffected.

For vehicle drop-off and pick-up at the station the following drop-off points are available:

Glengall Street – pick-up and drop-off is available on Glengall Street. Glengall Street can be accessed via the local access road from Durham Street.

St Andrew’s Square - (access and exit via Hope Street). Passengers being set down here during the temporary closure can walk via Hope St, Great Victoria St, and Glengall St and access the station via Saltwater Lane.

Value Car Parks – (access and exit via Grosvenor Road). Passengers can utilise the set down areas which are available on the first floor of the multi-story car park. The first ten minutes are free of change for cars using Value Car Parks. Passengers being set down at this point should access the new station via the Grosvenor Road entrance.

20 March 2025 Access update - Grosvenor Road/Durham Street

To facilitate ongoing public realm works and ensure passenger and public safety from Saturday 22nd March, passengers and station users will no longer be able to access Durham Street/Grosvenor Road from the Saltwater Lane exit of Belfast Grand Central Station.

Passengers are advised to use the Grosvenor Road entrance/exit for accessing Grosvenor Road.

Access to Glengall Street from Saltwater Lane remains unaffected.

It is not permitted to pick-up or drop-off on Durham Street or Grosvenor Road.

For drop-off and pick up at the Station the following drop-off points are available:

Glengall St – taxis can pick-up and drop-off at Glengall Street. Glengall Street can be accessed via the local access road on Durham Street.

St Andrew’s Square - (access and exit via Hope Street). Passengers being set down here can walk through the Europa Bus Centre, exit at Glengall Street and access the new station entrance from Durham Street.

Value Car Parks – (access and exit via Grosvenor Road). Passengers can utilise the set down areas which are available on the first floor of the multi-story car park. The first ten minutes are free of change for cars using Value Car Parks (longer term parking also available). Passengers being set down at this point should access the new station via the Grosvenor Road entrance.

18 March to Saturday 19 April - NIE Networks Grosvenor Road Works

Essential underground cable works will be carried out in the Durham Street and Grosvenor Road area of Belfast from Tuesday, 18 March to Saturday 19 April (inclusive).

These works will facilitate ongoing public realm works around Grand Central Station with the removal of an underground cable on Durham Street and an upgrade to existing underground cables on the Grosvenor Road.

Translink and NIE Networks are working collaboratively to minimise any disruption with a carefully-planned approach that ensures local business and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Anyone travelling in this area should leave plenty of time for their journeys and expect some lane restrictions. There will also be traffic diversions in place due to road closures on Sundays between 6am-3pm - full details will be available at trafficwatchni.com.

To help reduce city centre congestion, everyone is encouraged to use public transport where they can including Park & Ride and active travel options like walking or cycling whenever possible, especially in the longer brighter spring days.

Translink customers can choose from a wide range of good value tickets, modern & comfortable services as well as enjoy the wider health and environmental benefits bus and rail travel offers.
