Our Mission
Our mission is to lead the transport transformation in Northern Ireland. By creating advanced public transport services and integrated networks which connect people and communities, enhance the economy, improve health and environmental wellbeing for all. We want to achieve this responsibly by:
Climate Action Pledge
Translink has signed the Business in the Community Climate Action Pledge, a public commitment to achieving an ambitious target to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030.
Climate Positive Strategy
In 2021 Translink launched a new Climate Positive Strategy that sets out our plans to deliver a cleaner transport future. We will do this by decarbonising public transport and working to achieve net zero emissions across our buses, trains and buildings by 2040 and to go beyond and be net zero by 2050.

Biodiversity Strategy
Our Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2030 provides an ambitious target-driven approach to deliver nature-positive operations whilst maintaining a focus on safety and performance. We have a unique position to contribute to Nature Recovery within Northern Ireland by improving ecological connectivity for habitats and species along our linear infrastructure and adjacent landholdings.
New Zero Emission Fleet
We have introduced 80 Battery Electric and 23 Hydrogen zero emissions vehicles into our fleet. We currently operate the fourth largest fleet of zero emissions vehicles in the UK and Ireland.
Benchmarking Survey
Translink has held the top Platinum status in the NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey which assesses the extent to which organisations have embedded environmental business practices within corporate strategies and operations.
Eco Heroes School Booklet
We are proud to announce the launch of our Eco Heroes booklet, an exciting educational resource designed for schoolchildren aged 8-11. The booklet is a key component of our Bus Shelters Improvement Project community engagement.
The Eco Heroes booklet aims to engage young people with the importance of public transport and its role in promoting environmental sustainability.
Through interactive content and vibrant graphics, the booklet educates children on how using public transport can help fight climate change and contribute to a greener future.
In addition to the booklet, we are providing additional resources for teachers, including a suggested lesson plan, a climate animation, and a downloadable version of the booklet to enhance classroom engagement.
Noise Action Plan
Translink is consulting on a Noise Action Plan to manage and where possible reduce the impact of noise arising from the railway operations of NI Railways during the period 2025 – 2030.
