Translink – Plan Ahead -Essential Work on Derry~Londonderry Line during September
Derry~Londonderry – Coleraine Line weekend closures
Translink is advising passengers to plan ahead for some changes to rail services between Derry~Londonderry and Coleraine during two weekends in September while essential maintenance and improvement works are carried out on the line.
Engineering works will take place on Saturday 19, Sunday 20, and Monday 21 September, and again on Saturday 26, Sunday 27, and Monday 28 September. There will also be some changes to early morning rail services on Tuesday 22 and Tuesday 29 September. During these periods, rail replacement bus services will operate between Derry~Londonderry and Coleraine, with valid rail tickets also accepted on appropriate scheduled bus services.
Customers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and check travel arrangements before setting off.
The works are part of an important programme of maintenance designed to keep the line safe, reliable, and resilient for the future. By bringing a range of activities together within the same closure periods, Translink can reduce the need for further disruption at other times.
Rail services between Coleraine and Belfast Grand Central Station will continue to operate as normal, with no impact on services between Coleraine and Portrush. Bangor, Larne, Portadown and cross-border rail services will also operate as normal.
John Glass, Translink Director of Infrastructure and Projects, said:
"We know these works will affect some journeys, particularly on the two Mondays, and we'd encourage customers to plan ahead and check service information before travelling.
"While no disruption is ever welcome, these works are essential to maintaining the safety and reliability of the railway. By completing several activities during the same closure periods, we can minimise the need for future disruption.
"We'd like to thank passengers and local communities for their patience and understanding while this important work is carried out."
Passengers travelling from Derry~Londonderry to Belfast for the Belfast City Half Marathon on Sunday 20 September are advised to use the 06:00 212 service from Foyle Street Buscentre, arriving at Belfast Grand Central Station at 08:00. Scheduled services will then be available to Lanyon Place.
