Translink and Orchardville Bring Accessible Belfast–Dublin Enterprise Journey to Life Through Art on the Train

Translink has showcased the ease, comfort and accessibility of travelling between Belfast and Dublin through a special event at Belfast Grand Central Station, centred around a live, onboard art workshop led by Artist in Residence, Ed Reynolds.

Participants began with a brief introduction to the station’s accessible design-including step-free access, intuitive wayfinding and dedicated support services-before boarding the Enterprise service to Dublin. As the train moved through the landscape, the workshop unfolded in real time, with participants using creativity to capture moments of movement, connection and shared experience.

Led by Ed Reynolds, the session transformed the journey into a creative space, highlighting how accessible public transport can open up opportunities for expression, independence and inclusion. The event forms part of Translink’s ongoing commitment to making travel welcoming and accessible for everyone.

Translink’s Accessibility Manager, Danielle Campbell, said, “This event combined accessible design and welcoming spaces with creativity, allowing participants to experience the journey with confidence and ease. Through the onboard workshop, travel became a space for expression and connection”

Participants from Orchardville also took part in the experience, sharing their perspectives on accessible travel and creative engagement.

A spokesperson for Orchardville said, “Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable for the people we support. Being able to experience the station, understand the journey and then express that through art helps build confidence and independence. It shows that public transport is not only accessible, but welcoming and inclusive for everyone.”

The event also showcased the Enterprise rail service, which provides a fast, frequent and sustainable connection between Belfast and Dublin-linking two capital cities with ease.

Departing every hour from Belfast Grand Central Station-with up to 15 services daily Monday to Saturday and 8 on Sundays-the Enterprise service offers a comfortable, convenient and hassle-free journey between the two cities. Customers can sit back, relax and enjoy spacious seating, onboard catering and a range of travel options, arriving in Dublin refreshed and ready to go.

With wheelchair access across services, seat reservations and a range of onboard comfort options, including Enterprise Plus with extra legroom, lumbar support and onboard host service, the Enterprise reflects Translink’s wider commitment to accessible and inclusive travel.

With fares available from just £9.99 when booked in advance online, the Enterprise also offers excellent value, with customers able to reserve seats and manage bookings easily making cross-border travel simple, flexible and stress-free.

Danielle Campbell added: “Through initiatives like this, we are demonstrating how public transport can be both inclusive and inspiring. The Enterprise service plays a vital role in connecting Belfast and Dublin, offering a reliable, comfortable and environmentally friendly way to travel. With hourly departures, it truly is the doorway to Dublin-making cross-border travel easier than ever.”

Since the introduction of hourly services, the Enterprise has experienced significant growth, with passenger numbers increasing by over 50% a clear indication of rising demand for fast, frequent and sustainable cross-border rail travel between Belfast and Dublin.

This initiative reflects Translink’s Better.Connected strategy-placing people, place and community at the heart of transport-while continuing to enhance accessibility, sustainability and customer experience across the network.
