Your Safety

Rail Safety

Safety is always Translink’s top priority. Here is some important advice to ensure you enjoy a safe and comfortable journey.

General Rail Safety

  • Never go onto the tracks and never use tracks as a shortcut.
  • Listen to safety announcements in the station and on-board the train.
  • Always stay behind the yellow line on the platform.
  • Be alert and vigilant getting on and off trains.
  • Mind the Gap between the train and the platform – pay particular attention when boarding or getting off a train.
  • Avoid mobile phone use and remove headphones when boarding.
  • Audio and visual information is provided in trains and at stations.
  • Listen out and watch for next stop announcements on board.
  • Arrive in good time for your train.
  • Walk, don’t run, on the platform.
  • Don’t rush to the closing door. The door is not like a lift and will not re-open once the train has been dispatched.
  • Be safe on escalators, hold the handrail and concentrate on your footing. Wear sensible shoes.
  • Never cycle on a station platform.
  • Do not leave bags or personal belongings on the platform or in the aisle on board the train as it can present a trip hazard.
  • We have CCTV on board trains and at stations to keep our passengers and staff safe and our train conductors can wear body worn cameras.
  • If you are travelling with children, ensure their safety on the platform and when boarding and disembarking.

Courtesy to other passengers

  • Allow the elderly and people with disabilities to use priority seating.
  • If a passenger in a wheelchair boards and you are seated in a wheelchair space/priority seating, please move to another area.
  • Smoking and vaping is prohibited on board.
  • Please use mobile phones with consideration for other passengers, use earphones and keep the volume low enough so as not to disturb others.
  • Do not behave in a way that could cause harm, damage, or disturbance.
  • Don’t throw things inside the train. This could hurt other passengers or Translink staff.
  • Seats are not for feet or bags.

Taking your pram/buggy on the train

  • Ensure your child is properly secured in the pram/buggy.
  • Never leave pram/buggy unattended and be vigilant near the edge of the platform.
  • Apply the brake and do not hang shopping bags or other items on your pram/buggy.
  • Mind the gap when boarding and disembarking - remain aware of the position of the pram/buggy wheels in relation to the platform and train.
  • Don’t park the pram/buggy in the aisle. If priority seating is taken, fold the buggy and stow it behind the seats.
