Lurgan Train Station Redevelopment Project

Plans are progressing for the redevelopment of Lurgan Train Station, which will deliver a new, modern station and an upgraded Park and Ride facility with increased capacity.

Translink is preparing to submit a planning application to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for the proposed redevelopment. This project represents a major investment by the Department for Infrastructure and is a key part of Translink’s commitment to delivering a high-quality, safe, and sustainable public transport network for current and future generations.

Project Overview

The proposed redevelopment includes:

  • Demolition of the existing station building and the Musgrave Marketplace building.
  • Construction of a new station building of approximately 520 square metres.
  • Increased passenger waiting capacity.
  • Enhanced passenger facilities including toilets, ticket sales, and a café.
  • Improved staff amenities.
  • Construction of sheltering canopies on both platforms.
  • A new pedestrian and cycle bridge linking the station building and platforms.
  • Additional Park and Ride spaces, with two new access junctions to the south of the station on Brownlow Terrace.

Community Engagement

A Pre-Application Community Consultation (PACC) was undertaken in November 2024. This included:

  • Two public drop-in events at Lurgan Town Hall and St Peter’s GAC Community Sports Hall
  • An online consultation via the Translink website
  • An answerphone service
  • A dedicated project email address

These consultation measures ensured meaningful engagement with local residents and key stakeholders. All feedback received from the public was reviewed and considered by the project design team and has helped shape the final design of the development.

Additional Online Consultation (August 2025)

Following the introduction of the Planning (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2025, which take effect from 1st August 2025, Translink is undertaking an additional 28-day period of online public consultation.

This consultation will:

  • Display details of the proposed development
  • Enable members of the public to submit comments on the proposals
  • Run from Friday 1st August to Friday 29th August 2025

Project information and an opportunity to submit feedback will be available at: www.gravisplanning.com/live-consultations

Next Steps

When the planning application is submitted, the Council will carry out the standard neighbourhood notification process. At that stage, residents and stakeholders will again have the opportunity to make formal representations to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
