Upcoming Planned Line Improvement Works

Translink is committed to keeping everyone better connected, moving and safe. We are making significant investments in our rail infrastructure across Northern Ireland as it is vital we modernise our network for future generations and provide services which can help fight against the climate emergency.

While the vast majority of engineering works take place overnight, some circumstances require longer periods of closures.

This occurs for particular projects that are replacing or improving essential infrastructure like tracks, bridges, signalling and new stations, etc.

These larger scale works require extensive planning and often years in advance, but there will be unavoidable disruption to some passengers.

We carefully plan to undertake the works during times off peak times, such as weekends and national holidays. Our project teams plan works that must happen and work 24 hours a day to complete this.

We try our best to coordinate with other events around Northern Ireland such as music, major sporting, cultural and other entertainment events. We have seen a significant increase in events throughout the country since the pandemic and this leads to challenges when deciding when best to undertake engineering work. We work hard to avoid impacting these as much as possible.
