Leadership, Communication and Engagement

During January the senior leadership team have been preparing our plans for 2018/19. We have an extremely exciting year ahead with further plans to grow passenger numbers and to deliver a range of high profile projects, including Glider, transport hubs and our new ticketing system, supporting our vision to be Your First Choice for Travel in Northern Ireland.

Last week around 50 senior managers met to discuss the plans for the year ahead and there was strong agreement that to deliver our plans successfully requires a focus on leadership, communication and engagement at all levels in the organisation.
Over the coming weeks we are planning to develop and improve some of the communications tools we already have, such as ULink, and to look at introducing some new and innovative ways for you to find out more about things happening within the organisation that matter to you. 


We also want to hear more about what you think; we’ll be asking you to have ‘Your Say’ again in our new employee engagement survey coming later this year and making it easier for you to feedback your ideas and opinions. 

We are also working on more ways to recognise colleagues who regularly go above and beyond, providing our customers with excellent service and improving our services overall.       

The ‘One Translink, One Team’ approach will help us to transform public transport and deliver our vision.

Creating the next generation of leaders is also important to future success and one way we will be doing this is through the Pathways to Management Programme.  Now in its second year, it is aimed at colleagues who aspire to progress to an operational management post. People from across the company come together to develop their knowledge, leadership skills and operational management experience. Six people have already successfully completed this programme and their feedback has been very positive as they get more involved in decision making and improve their knowledge and skills.

The programme will open for applications this week and I would encourage anyone interested in developing a management career within Translink to consider applying.

Colleagues working at Belfast Central Station may have noticed that work has started on the refurbishment and modernisation of the station frontage.  This will provide a more attractive, accessible and modern frontage to replace the current ‘blast wall’. This will include enhancements to the ticketing area, improved retail/café offerings and the provision of a new Belfast Bike dock.

This refurbishment work is due to be completed by the end of August which will coincide with the introduction of the new Glider service. We will be working closely with the local contractor to deliver this important project and will keep you up to date with progress. The station will be completely accessible throughout the works and every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum during this time.  We would ask for your patience and support as we carry out this improvement work.

Over the last few weeks I have met with a range of political, community and business leaders and getting widespread support for the work that Translink does. It is important that we remain focused on continuously improving the public transport service we deliver every day, with excellent punctuality & reliability, customer satisfaction and value for money - ‘let’s go together’.
