New Bus Investment

Monday 31 October 2016
Last week, I welcomed the good news, announced by our Infrastructure Minister, Chris Hazzard that we are set to benefit from a £10 million investment in new Ulsterbus, Goldline and Metro buses. This is great news as it helps us to maintain the attractiveness of our services, providing the highest levels of comfort and quality for our customers, while delivering much needed additional capacity. They also meet the very latest environmental standards making them some of the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly buses in Northern Ireland.

"New Bus investment and Belfast Hub Consultation gets Underway"

Around £4 million of the investment will be used to purchase 20 new Metro Double Decker buses from local Northern Ireland manufacturer Wrightbus in Ballymena. We have a long history with Wrightbus with over 60% of our fleet procured from them. This brings more good news for the local economy and we look forward to working with them again.

This £10m investment really is good news for everyone.

This week brings more good news with the start of our public consultation on the design proposals for the Belfast Transport Hub. This is very exciting as we unveil the first design proposals of this world class transport hub, combining bus, rail and active travel. As a high quality gateway for Belfast and Northern Ireland it will provide the right infrastructure to allow us to develop and grow, transforming our public transport networks.

A lot of work has gone on to reach this key milestone and we are looking forward to meeting many of the key stakeholders, members of the local community and passengers across Belfast and Northern Ireland to gather their feedback. Their views and comments will help us to shape the next stage of designs ahead of our planning application next spring. I would encourage you all to get involved in this consultation with more details on the project available at www.translink.co.uk/thehub/ or follow the conversation online at #thebelfasthub.

Continued investment in our bus and train networks is important to encourage more people to make public transport their first choice for travel in Northern Ireland. This is one of the key indicators in the draft programme for government published for consultation last Friday by the NI Executive and we will continue to work hard to deliver this for the benefit of everyone in Northern Ireland.

Finally, I would also remind you that our Employee Engagement survey will go live next week. This is your opportunity to have your say about how we do business allowing us to shape and continuously build and improve on how we do things.
