Chief Executive Chris Conway's weekly update to employees
Monday 10 August 2020
From today, it is now compulsory to wear face coverings in shops and other enclosed public spaces. Whilst this has been in place for public transport over the last month, this new change will help to re-enforce the message for everyone about the importance of measures such as this.
Throughout the pandemic, it has been our teamwork and community spirit that has supported everyone through this. It is more important than ever that we continue to draw on this to move through the next stage. Wearing face coverings, social distancing and washing our hands are all about protecting others, our families and ourselves.
To support this and remind people of the basics, last week we shared our new Back to Basics information and poster to help us all remember the steps we should be taking. A new Northern Ireland-specific contact tracing app ‘StopCOVID NI’, developed by the Department of Health, is also now available for download.
The first groups of students are due to start back to school in the coming weeks, with a full-time return planned for all from the 1 September. This will be a big change for everyone, and we are working hard behind the scenes with all the relevant authorities around our plans to support this.
Students aren’t the only passengers returning to services and we are again seeing steady increases in our passenger numbers. Whilst the increases are positive, we are still working with substantially reduced passenger numbers and revenue for the business. We are continuing to provide our vital services and are working together as a business to look at how we do this in the most efficient and effective ways.
Another week of changes for us all and certainly more to come over the next weeks. To support us all as we deal with these uncertain times, we continue to have a strong focus on communication and supporting your wellbeing. Please do remember to access the support and information available to you. To find out more, access our employee App, Learning Platform or uLink.
Don’t forget, today is the last day to sign up for our virtual coffee break on 25 August, to celebrate our commitment to Pride and share our plans for LGBT inclusion. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your place.
Thank you and let’s go safely together
