Chief Executive Chris Conway's weekly update to employees
Monday 03 August 2020
The news and our world continue to be dominated by the pandemic. Whilst we see positive moves forward in the recovery plan and releasing of lockdown measures, we also see the precautions being taken and lockdown restrictions being placed on specific locations to help contain any spikes in cases.
Whilst we are all keen to move forward, it’s vital that we do this safely, remaining mindful of the measures in place to help keep us safe. Above all, it is important we keep following the basics, washing your hands regularly and properly for at least 20 seconds, wear a face covering and maintaining social distancing. Everyone still needs to also play their part by getting tested if they show any symptoms and self-isolating when advised to for the now required ten days, which changed last week.
We are continuing to see positive increases in our passenger numbers, and I’m pleased to see that passengers are listening and supporting the measures we have in place to support us all to travel safely together, including using face coverings and using contactless payments.
Work also continues across the business to develop our facilities and services. Work is underway to produce 21 new Class 4000 rail carriages for delivery next year. This week you can also find out more about and feedback on plans for redevelopment of Yorkgate Train Station. For more information on both of these projects go to our employee Spirit app.
The 2020 virtual Pride Parade took place on Saturday. You can still sign up for our virtual coffee break on Tuesday 25 August, which will celebrate our commitment to Pride and enable us to share our plans for LGBT inclusion. Email email@example.com to book your place.
Going virtual as well this year, is Feile 2020, which is on now until 9th August, go to feilebelfast.com/home/ for more information. You can also get involved with the Eastside Arts Festival, which has a mix of virtual and live events from 6th-16th August www.eastsidearts.net/news/eastside-arts-festival-2020-update.
We continue to have a strong focus on supporting the wellbeing of all our employees. As part of our monthly focus, we have developed resources to look at financial wellbeing. This includes the opportunity to access a one-to-one Money Mentor session to get advice on anything from budgeting to buying your first home. This month the focus will be ‘Reach out for help’. To find out more about the wellbeing support available access our employee App, Learning Platform or uLink.
With everything else going on, we continue to provide our services and support our local communities, showing the Translink Spirit. I’m delighted to see that we are still getting regular compliments for employees from customers across all our services, showing just how dedicated to serving our community all our employees are.
Thank you and let’s go safely together
