Chief Executive Chris Conway's weekly update to employees
Monday 06 January 2020
I hope everyone enjoyed a great Christmas and is now looking forward to a happy and healthy 2020. As we prepare for this exciting new decade of opportunities, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who worked hard over the festive period to keep services running and help all our customers.
There were a couple of particular incidents I’d like to mention that really demonstrate just how responsive and compassionate our colleagues are when handling challenging situations.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragic incident on the Portadown railway line on New Year’s Eve and I’d like to thank colleagues for their sensitive response to a very difficult and sad situation. Anyone currently facing concerns is reminded they can seek confidential support through the Inspire helpline, our dedicated counselling service, on 0800 389 5362.
The same day, our colleagues in Foyle Street Bus Station and social media swiftly responded to a unique situation in which newlyweds were heading on honeymoon from Dublin Airport when the bride realised she’d left her essential medication back at home... in Derry~Londonderry.
She put out an urgent call for help on social media and we were able to bring the medication on our X4 Goldline coach service to the airport in time for her flight. In particular, I’d like to thank Patricia Rogers in social media and Luke O’Reilly, our hero bus driver, who made this special delivery – a fantastic example of superb team work!
Special recognition must also go to our Safety Bus Co-ordinator Susan O’Neill who is now a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) as was recently announced in the New Year’s Honours List for her services to public transport and the community.Well done to Susan who is a great ambassador for Translink and an inspiration to us all.
I know many employee acts of kindness and outstanding service are taking place across Translink on a daily basis and it’s great that this is being recognised at the highest level.
I am very hopeful about the opportunities that lie ahead in the next decade for Translink as we experience a greater awareness of climate change and the need for a modal shift towards public transport. I am also confident that we have the right team at Translink to transform public transport in Northern Ireland and make it everyone’s ‘First Choice for Travel’.
Let’s go together and show the Translink SPIRIT in everything we do.
