Chief Executive Chris Conway's weekly update to employees
"Your generosity knows no bounds and is a perfect illustration of the Translink SPIRIT"
Monday 23 December 2019
The support of staff and customers, as well as the wider community, for this year’s Stuff a Bus appeal has been nothing short of phenomenal – it was a pleasure to be at Shane Retail Park on Boucher Road last Wednesday with Translink colleagues and others to witness the sheer scale of the generosity. This year’s target of 20,000 gifts was exceeded, and a double-deck vehicle was filled with gifts, with an overflow. These will now be distributed by the Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul to needy families across Northern Ireland in time for Christmas.
I want to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone – staff, customers, local businesses, sporting organisations, charities and everyone else – for your incredibly generous support for this year’s appeal. Your generosity knows no bounds and is a perfect illustration of the Translink SPIRIT. Particular thanks to the staff in those Translink stations and bus centres who have hosted collection bins over the last few weeks; I know a lot of fun has been had as you’ve supported the appeal! Together, we’ve played our part in helping to make Christmas even more special for the whole community.
Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard over the last few weeks, dealing with increased passenger numbers on our services as people travel more for shopping and socialising – our late night services at weekends have proven very popular once again, and I’m proud of all staff who have gone the extra mile to help our passengers get to and from where they need to be.
I also want to thank all colleagues who will be working to keep Northern Ireland moving during the holiday period, with bus and rail services serving an important role in connecting friends and family during the upcoming festivities.
Above all though, I want to express my gratitude for everything we have achieved during 2019, including our highest ever number of passenger journeys, and look forward to achieving even stronger results in 2020 as we seek to grow public transport further and make Translink services everyone’s ‘first choice for travel’.
A very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year to you and your families.
