Chief Executive Chris Conway's weekly update to employees
Monday 16 December 2019
This Wednesday we hold our annual #StuffABusNI appeal finale. It will be the last opportunity to stuff the bus with gifts for young people living in poverty this Christmas. Thousands of toys have already been donated by staff, customers, local business and the wider public – thank you for all the donations and the fantastic level of support!
We really need to keep building momentum now to smash our ‘20,000 toys’ target. So, if you’ve still to make a donation or you can encourage others to get behind the appeal, please get on board. The bus will be parked outside Smyth’s Toys, Shane Retail Park, Boucher Rd in Belfast all day on December 18 with U105 Radio shows live on board.
And don’t forget to enter our Stuff A Bus Translink Spirit Competition; simply email firstname.lastname@example.org before 12noon on December 19 with a short summary on what your team / facility did to encourage colleagues and others to donate.
I know there’s been a range of other excellent charity appeals set-up by colleagues to help those in need over Christmas – more fantastic examples of the Translink Spirit making a positive difference!
This week we’re also encouraging everyone to familiarise themselves with the Christmas and New Year holiday timetables for bus and train services. We’re already operating a range of additional services for shoppers and party-goers and brightening up their journeys with giveaways and in-station performances.
In the new North West Transport Hub at the weekend, we kick-started a festive activity programme to maximise our unique in-station community space with a range of performances and events from craft fairs and magical forest displays to storytelling and even yoga.
Our very own Translink choir will also be performing today in Europa Buscentre from 5-6pm to raise funds for our charity partner, Cancer Focus NI, so please come along and support the choir if you can.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s working hard to make Translink First Choice for Travel this festive season, supporting the modal shift we need to see away from private cars to public transport. This is always a busy time for us and with your hard work we are continuing to carry even more passengers.
