Chief Executive Chris Conway's weekly update to employees
"Delivering vital public transport to connect communities, connecting them to their jobs, to health and to education services"
Monday 09 December 2019
Last week I was really pleased to recognise colleagues at our annual long service awards event in the magnificent surroundings of Belfast City Hall.
We reinstated our long service recognition evening last year following employee survey feedback and were delighted with the response from employees. It’s hard to believe that another year has come around already.
Everyone recognised at the event had given at least 35 years’ service or more to Translink and the evening was dedicated to thanking them for their contribution. To give 35 years’ service to any company is an achievement in itself but to dedicate this time to public service delivering vital public transport to connect communities, connecting them to their jobs, to health and to education services, is a fantastic achievement.
I was very pleased to be able to thank everyone on behalf of Translink and all the communities that they serve, they are true ambassadors of the Translink Spirit.
During the event, the newly formed Translink choir performed, it was great to see people from all across the company taking part in the choir, they are also taking part in special in-station events during the Christmas season. Come along and hear them if you get a chance, along with various other carol singers and choirs. They are all benefitting a number of charities and providing festive entertainment for passengers and staff.
Our annual ‘Stuff a Bus’ campaign continues to gain momentum and support. New and unwrapped gifts can be left in the special collection banks at our bus and train stations until 17th December. It’s great to see support from the business community including ASDA, Maldron Hotel, Electric Ireland, Visit Belfast and sporting groups including the GAA and IFA. Well known TV personality Eamonn Holmes is also supporting this year’s campaign, which is aiming to collect 20,000 gifts for families in need this Christmas on behalf of St Vincent de Paul and Salvation Army.
Our Festive ‘Surprise and Delight’ has also received a very favourable reaction from passengers across the network, offering special vouchers, treats and discounts. Customers in Derry~Londonderry will be treated to Foyle Metro ‘Surprise and Delight’ this week.
The new Translink NI Railways timetables have come into effect this week, improving capacity for peak commuter services, as well as at weekends, as we continue to work to enhance services for our customers. Our Christmas and New Year holiday timetables have also been published, with full details on the Translink website.
Finally, it was great to see Translink so well represented at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) annual dinner last week, supporting the development of all our Civil Engineers in the company. Well done to all involved, especially John Glass, Director of Infrastructure and Projects, who is the Northern Ireland Chair of ICE this year.
