Translink will be introducing frequent Urby bus services from Carryduff to Belfast from Monday 1st July.
Urby buses, with their distinctive new blue livery, are receiving extremely positive feedback on other commuter routes into Belfast and will shortly start operating from Carryduff to Belfast, via Cairnshill Park and Ride.
There will be ten-minute frequency during peak times and twenty-minute off-peak between Carryduff and Belfast city centre. For passenger convenience, Urby will service all stops between Carryduff and Cairnshill Park and Ride, then run express to Belfast City Centre. With existing bus lanes and bus priority measures already in place for Cairnshill Park and Ride, Carryduff customers will benefit from a fast and frequent service to and from central Belfast.
Saturday Urby services will operate a 30 minute frequency from Carryduff; and every 60 minutes on Sundays, enhanced by regular Ulsterbus services.
Urby is a sub-brand of Ulsterbus and is a modern new service, introduced in 2018, with the purpose of connecting people who live in towns on the periphery of Belfast to the city centre, making their travel for work, study or leisure easier. It has proven a significant success in areas it serves, with an overall increase of 10% in passenger numbers to date when compared to last year along corridors served by Urby services.
The high specification double deck vehicles were ordered from Wrightbus in Ballymena, and passengers and local representatives took the opportunity to preview the buses and get timetable information at an event this week at Carryduff Presbyterian Church.
Translink’s Southern Area Bus Services Manager, Arthur Hamilton, said: “Thousands of additional passengers have made Urby their first choice for travel on routes between Ballyclare and Belfast; Newtownards and Belfast; as well as from Park and Ride facilities at Cairnshill and Blacks Road. Urby buses are high specification double deck vehicles offering free wi-fi, USB charging, improved leather seating, extremely low emission Euro-6 engines and a distinctive livery.
‘‘I’m delighted that Translink is in a position to offer these prestigious new services in Carryduff, and we were glad to see so many members of the local community, alongside local representatives, coming along to learn more about the positive impact that the service will bring them.
“We believe people are becoming ‘smarter’ travellers as there is increasing discontent with the daily car commute. More and more people are looking for ways to get more ‘me time’, and Urby gives them that and more - for many it also helps them find the time for a more active and healthy lifestyle.”
In addition to the Urby service introduction in Carryduff, some existing Ulsterbus services from Downpatrick, Newcastle and Ballynahinch will operate via Forestside Shopping Centre during off-peak hours.
Updated passenger information will be refreshed on bus stops in Carryduff. For all the latest times, fares and tickets simply plan your journey.
