Dear Colleagues,

Many of you are involved in our TIDY Translink programme and work hard to keep our facilities tidy, attractive, safe and eco-friendly. As I have travelled around our network, it's very clear how your individual efforts are having a real positive impact, maintaining attractive facilities for customers and colleagues.

This week we launched our 7th annual TIDY Translink Awards to work at improving things further and - very importantly - to recognise everyone who is making a real and lasting difference. Participating facilities will be independently assessed by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful during the autumn; assessment criteria include: General Cleanliness, Health & Wellbeing, Translink Brand, Facility Enhancement, Environment & Community, Resource Management and Safety.

We have an impressive track record in this programme; In 2013/14, eight facilities achieved the top Platinum accolade, scoring 95% or above in the assessment. A further 12 facilities scooped Gold, then 12 Silver and 8 Bronze. These awards are all about 'continuous improvement' - so whether you achieved Bronze last year or even Platinum, this year's awards are another opportunity to build on previous success. Good luck everyone – this is one programme which makes a real and visible difference to the places we all work and our passenger use every day.

You will have seen this week the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – best wishes to our colleagues there who are working on the transport for athletes and officials – also to our colleagues in Ulsterbus Tours who brought Team Northern Ireland to the Games (and will bring them home again hopefully with medals as extra luggage). To be involved in this event is a great reflection on the professionalism of everyone at Translink. I know a great job will be done by all.
