Making History with the Hub

Group Chief Executive's Weekly Message

"The Belfast Hub has the potential to forge links to national and international markets, create new jobs, attract tourism and investment opportunities, reduce congestion and support the region's economy"
9th January 2015

I would first like to extend my sympathies to the families of those who died in the incidents before and during the Christmas break. Investigations into these incidents at Dunmurry and Lisburn are ongoing. These were tragic events and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends.

This week we launched the public consultation campaign, 'Making History', with the DRD, inviting views on The Belfast Hub. As you are aware, the Hub will be a major redevelopment project on the site encompassing the current Europa Buscentre and Great Victoria Street Train Station, which aims to regenerate and develop a new city quarter in addition to providing modern integrated transport facilities.

Public information sessions will take place on 15 & 16 January, 8am – 6pm, in the Europa Buscentre where Translink representatives and The Hub's appointed design team (ARUP) will share detail on options for this project and aspirations for bus and train facilities. Members of the public will be able to pick up consultation response postcards at the sessions or respond online at www.translink.co.uk/thehub.

The Belfast Hub has the potential to forge links to national and international markets, create new jobs, attract tourism and investment opportunities, reduce congestion and support the region's economy.

With increasing bus and train passenger numbers, the new facility will further enhance the passenger journey experience as well as provide vital additional capacity for bus, coach and rail services to cater for our growing customer base. We also plan to bring all cross border trains into the new facility ensuring better connectivity and access to the city centre.

I would encourage everyone to become involved and give us their views on this important project.
