Busy Weekend Ahead

"look out for the JAM card - helping everyone use our services"
24th May 2013

Dear Colleagues,

We have teamed up with NOW, an organisation that works with people with learning disabilities, difficulties and those on the Autistic Spectrum to help them gain qualifications, life/work experience and to support them into jobs with a future.  Their work is about social inclusion and leads to the people they work with having better health, a better education and a brighter future.

Earlier this week representatives and service users from NOW met with bus drivers at our May Street canteen to introduce the JAM card – a really innovative new scheme for people with learning difficulties who need Just A Minute of patience and time when interacting with our bus drivers and other service providers on a daily basis.  There has been overwhelming support from our bus staff throughout the city, and I would ask all our drivers and Translink staff to be aware of the card and take an extra moment of time when dealing with those who produce them.   If you would like to know more about the JAM card, you can contact NOW on 028 9043 6400.

You may have seen a lovely photograph in the Belfast Telegraph today of our own Cinty Stubberfield and a new guide dog puppy named ‘Tel’.  £5,000 raised at the recent annual ‘Billy Telford Memorial Golf Day’ will help fund Guide Dogs Northern Ireland to train the puppy;  he will now spend the next year being instructed in basic obedience followed by Guide Dog training before being matched to his blind or partially sighted owner.

Lastly, we have a busy weekend ahead of us. We are providing special bus and train services for both the Radio One Big Weekends in Ebrington Square, Derry ~ Londonderry and to Ulster v Leinster Rabo Direct Pro12 Final at the RDS Dublin. We are the official transport partner of Ulster Rugby and the City of Culture. We look forward to welcoming big crowds over a great weekend.
