Dear Colleagues,

This week we revealed that since the beginning of the summer holidays (June 1st), 96 incidents of pedestrian trespass on the rail network have been recorded. Safety, while always at the top of the agenda for Translink, particularly comes to the fore at this time of year. While we always appeal for parents and carers to remind young people to stay away from tracks, they are not the only ones who decide to use the rail network as a shortcut. Of the trespassing incidents we recorded in the past month, many of the trespassers were adults and one of them was a senior citizen.

We are reminding the public that our new trains are faster and quieter than previous rolling stock and that there are up to 60 services more operating on our network each week than there were this time last year, meaning that the risk of serious injury or death to trespassers is greater than ever.

We do lots of great work to ensure that we operate a safe network and we have an excellent safety record, however we must keep repeating the message that it is never a good idea to use tracks as a shortcut. Later in the summer, we will be running our annual 'Deadline' public safety campaign to remind pedestrians and motorists to stay safe around railway tracks and facilities.

This weekend sees the return of Bruce Springsteen to the Kings Hall in South Belfast. We will be operating a number of special late night bus and rail services to carry many of the 25000 expected music fans to and from the venue. These include rail services from Balmoral Station in both directions to Lisburn, Portadown and Belfast with onward connections to Bangor, Carrickfergus and Coleraine and special festival coaches will also run from various locations across Northern Ireland including Derry ~ Londonderry, Dungiven, Maghera, Castledawson, Omagh and Dungannon. In addition, a Metro bus service will run at 11pm after the concert to bring fans back to the city centre. Please remind passengers and your friends and family attending the concert about these great services.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who worked over the 12th holidays to keep our services operating so efficiently and maintaining the high level of customer service our passengers have come to expect.
