Try the Train

"Supporting the City of Culture"
11th January 2013

Dear Colleagues,

Following the successful introduction of our enhanced rail timetable, this week we launched a major communications & advertising campaign to encourage more people to use train services.

Our ‘Try The Train’ campaign highlights the benefits of rail travel including: more frequent services and greater capacity following the introduction of our new Class 4000 fleet and free on board Wi-Fi.  Travelling by train also means customers can relax on board instead of sitting in frustrating traffic jams and with our new Journey Check facility they can view real-time information on all NI Railways services.

We are also highlighting our great value tickets - annual, monthly or weekly passes, our mobile ticket mLink and our 1/3 off day return tickets after 9.30am. We are mailing timetables to over 250,000 householders living near train lines along with a 50% off voucher as an added incentive to try the train.

Look out for our new ‘Try the Train’ advertising and tell your friends and family about the great deals.

This week we also launched our partnership with UK City of Culture 2013 as the official Public Transport Partner for Derry~Londonderry. This will be an important partnership with over 1 million visitors expected to travel to and around the city throughout the year to participate in the fantastic events programme.

In addition to communications and marketing, we will support a range of events across the City of Culture programme through the provision of transport for artists, schools and community groups, including the National Youth Orchestra and the Turner Prize. We will also supply vintage buses to be used as exhibition spaces for the BT Portrait of a City.

This is a great opportunity to add to visitors’ experiences and we are looking forward to working with the Culture Company especially with the forthcoming re-opening of the Coleraine to Derry~Londonderry railway line.

This event is just one part of what will be a very busy 2013 on all fronts and I know many have been working hard for this and other events.  Thanks for this commitment and thanks to those who kept services running over the holiday period.   I look forward to your support and hard work which will make 2013 as successful for Translink as 2012 was!
