Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to tell you that we have received the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Four Star Quality Award from the Centre of Competitiveness. This is a remarkable achievement for us all.

EFQM recognises organisations’ excellence and quality performance and helps drive further learning and improvement in competitiveness, productivity, and efficiency.  It is a model used by over 30,000 organisations across Europe – this is what we are being compared against.

We achieved this award following independent assessment over four days by a team of assessors and it demonstrates our excellent business performance.  The Four Star award is the second highest level before reaching the top ‘Ireland Quality Award’ (Five Star).  To have reached this level on our first submission is really extraordinary and a reflection of the commitment and quality of our people and our management systems.

This accolade reflects excellent business practice across all divisions and our focus on organisational development. Congratulations to all on this tremendous achievement – we can now use EFQM’s report recommendations as we continue along our journey of continuous improvement and work towards five star standard.   This is something to be very proud of; it is not easily achieved.

This week also we have the return of our Love Metro Saturdays £2 day ticket available throughout February. This offer is great news for our customers and local traders. It supports the Backin’ Belfast campaign which includes a wide range of special deals available at both shopping and leisure outlets throughout the city, encouraging people to get behind Belfast whether it’s for socialising or shopping.

Finally, today we are supporting Samaritans’ ‘Feel Good Friday’ by running a series of in-station events featuring lots of ‘feel-good’ activities. We are pleased to continue to promote the charity’s emotional support services and encourage people to seek help during times of distress.
