Tennent’s Vital Travel

"Tennent's Vital Travel"
02nd August 2013

Dear Colleagues,

Our summer continues to be very busy; with many current and upcoming events.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in supporting all the World Police and Fire Games visitors during their stay in Northern Ireland. The opening ceremony last night was a real spectacle and we successfully and efficiently got people there and back.  Over the next 9 days, we will continue to provide useful travel advice and services for athletes, their friends and family from across the world.

Special coach and train services will also be in place for music fans heading to Tennent’s Vital concerts at Boucher Playing Fields on August 14-16. With around 90,000 fans expected at the three-day music festival, we want to make sure bus and rail is the best travel choice to and from the festival site www.translink.co.uk/tennentsvital.

Also on August 14th Northern Ireland play Russia at Windsor Park; this will make the Boucher Road area particularly busy and we are advising football fans to disembark at Adelaide Train Station while passengers heading to Tennent’s Vital should use Balmoral Train Station. For further information on our special services click Special Services.

Yesterday, Féile An Phobail began in West Belfast and will run until August 11th.  This event is billed as Ireland’s largest community arts festival and we have supported it for many years.  Of course we want people to use Translink Metro bus services to reach Féile events taking place across the city. We are also supporting the East Belfast Arts Festival which will take place later this month, August 28 – September 1, and have developed a Metro bus arts tour to showcase landmark pieces of art in the East of the city.

Finally, this week we were joined by the Regional Development Minister and Enterprise Minister to announce £5.8million from the EU as part of the recent investment in 53 buses and coaches which came into service over the last few months. These new vehicles are being used on Northern Ireland and cross border routes.

We welcome this EU funding and thank the Ministers and their Departments for their support in growing passenger transport in NI.
