GoSkills ‘Go for Excellence Awards’, Wembley Stadium - December 2009

Success for Translink NI Railways: Sonny Bowyer and Stuart Leathem are the first rail controllers in Great Britain and Ireland to receive an NVQ Level 2 in Rail Traffic Control, demonstrating NI Railways commitment to training and personal development.

Sonny also received runner up in the category ‘Achiever of the Year’.

NI Railways were also presented with ‘Company of the Year’ at the prestigious awards.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown wrote to the company in recognition of NI Railways success stating “I hope that Translink NI Railways and its employees are very proud of their achievement. Your work is an illustration of what can be achieved by commitment and dedication.”



CIPR NI PRide Awards - November 2009

Gold Award - Best Public Sector Campaign

Translink’s Communications Team received this top award for Translink’s communications campaign for the £12.5 million Londonderry Railway Line Upgrade. Translink used a sustained and integrated communications campaign to keep passengers, residents, stakeholders and the general public fully informed on project aims, construction work, safety implications and passenger benefits of the track-life extension work.

Passenger Transport Management Award - June 2009

Translink NI Railway’s General Manager of Rail Services Mal McGreevy won the Passenger Transport Professional Award has been rewarded for his skills, talent and commitment among the UK's public passenger transport industry at the recent Passenger Transport Management Awards.

This award is designed to recognise and reward the exercise of outstanding management talent in the delivery of public passenger transport services.



Federation of Passenger Transport for Northern Ireland Awards - 20 February 2009

Translink’s General Manager for Bus Services Frank Clegg and Health, Safety and Environment Manager William Patton were awarded with the Health and Safety Award at the awards dinner in Galgorm Manor, Ballymena, Friday 20th February.

Frank Clegg said “Health and safety is of top priority in our organisation. We were delighted to have won this award; it marks the hard work of our colleagues on the route risk assessment projects and across the organisation.”



HSBC Rail Business Awards 2008 - 26 February 2009

Translink NI Railways was awarded Rail Business of the Year 2008.

International Station Awards 2008 - 13 November 2008

The International Station Awards rewards the effort and commitment of railway stations who have worked hard to provide excellent passenger facilities and customer service. It showcases stations on an international platform and allows participating companies to learn from industry best practice and to develop strong working relationships with other rail operators.

Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE) - 2008

Following successful application to become the only Assessing Agent for the Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers in Ireland, 6 personnel from the Signalling Department were presented with their licenses. These IRSE licenses are internationally recognised licenses and are the first to be presented to the NI Railways staff.

Institution of Structural Engineers, Northern Ireland Branch, Centenary Awards - 27 February 2008

This event, held at Belfast's Waterfront Hall and hosted by television and radio personality Wendy Austin, was to recognise the engineering excellence of projects in Northern Ireland completed since 2000.

"Winner" for Transportation Structures - the Translink Train Care Centre, Fortwilliam

The Institution presented awards in six engineering categories, including Transportation Structures (sponsored by Fisher Engineering), which was won by the Translink Train Care Centre at Fortwilliam. The design team, lead by Arup, fought off stiff competition from other distinguished projects including Belfast City Airport and another Translink project, the Bangor Bus/Rail Interchange.

The award was collected by Chris Caves of Arup, accompanied by Tom McClintock of Translink.


HSBC Rail Business Awards 2007 - 27 February 2008

'Highly Commended' for "Rail Marketing Campaign of the Year" for the online Enterprise Fare Choice campaign.

By giving customers the flexibilty of choosing when they wanted to travel and allowing them to determine the cost of their own day return fare, this campaign was recognised for increasing revenue and passenger journeys as well as creating positive brand awareness with new and existing customers, securing future growth for the future.


NICVA Link Awards - 12 February 2008

1st Place - Small Charity category

Translink has demonstrated its commitment to high standards of customer care following recognition at the recent NICVA Link Awards in Belfast.

Translink won first place in the Small Charity Category after being nominated by Shopmobility in Belfast. The award comes hard on the heels of a new Shopmobility scheme opening at Coleraine Bus & Rail Centre – so emphasising the widespread popularity of Shopmobility services.
