York’s majestic Minster towers over this, the most historic of English cities and for over 2000 years the spiritual capital of the North. Within its walls, along its narrow streets – largely unchanged since the Middle Ages – you will find Romans, Vikings, Saxons and Normans. In fact, you may well find real objects from the city’s rich past, when you take part in an authentic archaeological dig at “D.I.G.”, as part of a visit to the famous Jorvik Viking Centre – or something a little less earth-ly on an in-famous Ghost Walk.
York and the surrounding area offer a huge range of activities, both educational and fun–based. Together they make it one of the top 3 destinations for school tours – up there with London and Edinburgh.
Allowing for a visit en-route on Day 1, you arrive in York in good time for dinner.
