The Derrynane Hotel is located on the edge of the Atlantic, at the furthest point of the Ring of Kerry. It is surrounded by breathtaking scenery with mountains, sea and beaches and stunning views overlooking Kenmare Bay.

The tour includes visits to Valencia Island and the Skellig Experience, with stops at Gougane Barra, Derrynane House, Clonmacnoise and Ballyjamesduff.

Day 1 - Sunday

We leave Belfast at 10.00 and travel south via Cavan. We spend some time this afternoon at Clonmacnoise, Ireland’s most famous early Christian monastic settlement. We take the short journey to our overnight hotel in Co. Offaly.

Hotel:

County Arms Hotel, Birr *** (1 night)

Day 2 - Monday

Our first stop today is Gougane Barra at Saint Finbar’s Hermitage, located in the most serene valley in the Shehy Mountains. We carry on along the north shore of the Kenmare River estuary to our base in Caherdaniel.

Hotel:

Derrynane Hotel, Caherdaniel ***
(3 nights)

Day 3 - Tuesday

After a relaxing breakfast overlooking the ocean we drive to nearby Valencia Island, where we visit the Skellig Experience Centre. In the afternoon we visit the National Park and Derrynane House, ancestral home of Daniel O’Connell.

Day 4 - Wednesday

A free day to relax and walk on the beach. If the weather is good you can visit the Skelligs - not for the faint-hearted, it involves a 50 minute sea journey and a climb up an ancient stone stairway from sea level to the monastic site (bookable at the hotel with an additional charge).

Day 5 - Thursday

We leave the Ring of Kerry today and commence our homeward journey. We are expected back in the Europa Buscentre at around 8.00pm.
