Christmas Markets in Holland means Valkenburg! This small city provides a unique setting - the many cafes, bars, boutiques and souvenir shops which line the narrow cobble-stoned streets put on their festive best.

We spend three nights in the popular Walram Hotel, in the centre of Valkenburg. From there we travel a short distance into Germany, to Aachen and then to Cologne in mid-week, and Dusseldorf on the week-end trips.

Day 1 - Thursday/Sunday

We travel from Belfast to Stranraer on the early morning Stena HSS and on by coach to Hull for the overnight sailing to Zeebrugge.

Overnight::

P&O Cruiseferry (outside cabins with facilities, all meals included)

Day 2 - Friday/Monday

rom Zeebrugge we travel directly to Valkenburg, famous for its Roman underground caves and grottos, which make truly fascinating settings for their famous Christmas Markets. We arrive around mid-day at the centrally located Walram Hotel, with the afternoon and evening free to explore these unique markets both above and below the ground.

Day 3 - Saturday/Tuesday

On the mid-week tour (Tuesday) we travel east to one of the most celebrated of all German Christmas Markets, in the Cathedral city of Cologne, thus avoiding the huge weekend crowds.

On the week-end tours (Saturday) we travel to the outstanding Christmas Market in Dusseldorf .

Day 4 - Sunday/Wednesday

A short journey this morning takes us over the Dutch/German border again, to Aachen, a vibrant cultural centre with an excellent range of shops and attractive cafés. The Aachener Printe (a local gingerbread speciality) is a popular souvenir.

We return around mid-day with the afternoon and the evening free in Valkenburg.

Day 5 - Monday/Thursday

We leave Valkenburg this morning and drive to the beautiful Belgian city of Brugge. Zeebrugge is only 10 miles away, a short drive to join the overnight sailing back to Hull.

Day 6 - Tuesday/Friday

From Hull we retrace our outward journey, arriving in Belfast around 10.00pm.
