  Sligo & Mayo
  at the Glasshouse Hotel

Sligo

Towering dramatically over the banks of the Garavogue River, The Glasshouse is the first designer hotel of its kind in Ireland - a glittering beacon of colour in the centre of one of Ireland’s most vibrant cities. Sligo’s super-friendly bustling streets are peppered with small boutiques, cafes and bars, as well as a myriad of craft shops offering handmade crafts, pottery and jewellery. The new Quayside Shopping Centre boasts a large number of high-street shops.

Once again, this year’s tours to Sligo explore a little more of the intriguing past of counties Sligo and neighbouring Mayo.

Day 1 - Monday

We leave Belfast at 11.00am, breaking our journey in Enniskillen around lunch time. We arrive at our hotel in the centre of Sligo in the late afternoon in plenty of time to unwind before dinner.

Hotel:

The Glasshouse, Sligo **** (3 nights)

Day 2 - Tuesday

We have a short excursion this morning to Drumcliff Churchyard, the final resting place of W.B. Yeats. It was 9 years after his death in France that Yeats’ wish was finally realised and he was buried in the county that inspired much of his writing. On our return to Sligo the rest of the day is free for you to explore the town.

Day 3 - Wednesday

We travel into Co. Mayo today with a visit to National Museum of Country Life (part of the Irish National Museum, Dublin), showing all aspects of life in rural Ireland. On the way back to Sligo we call at Hennigan’s Heritage Centre - “the real thing” where we meet Tom Hennigan whose family have lived on 10 acres here for 6 generations. Tom tells the story well - sometimes sad, often hilarious.

We return to the hotel with time to relax once more before dinner this evening.

Day 4 - Thursday

We depart Sligo just after lunchtime and head east, arriving back in Belfast around 5.00pm.
