	Boppard

The small town of Boppard is just a half day’s coach drive from the P&O ferry port of Europoort. It has become an established part of every Ulsterbus Tours brochure for the last twenty years. The family-run Ebertor Hotel, located in the centre of the town, on the bank of the Rhine, welcomes us as old friends when visiting in the spring, autumn or for the Christmas Markets (see page 49).

On both spring and autumn visits we travel downstream to the old West German capital, Bonn, and across country to follow the Mosel River to its confluence with the Rhine at Koblenz. This year the 7 day tour includes a visit to the Loreley Visitors Centre.

Day 1 - Sunday

We leave the Europa Buscentre at 6.30am and catch the early morning HSS to Scotland. From Stranraer we proceed to Hull where we board the overnight sailing to Europoort.

Day 2 - Monday

From Europoort we drive through south-west Holland before entering Germany. We arrive at our hotel in Boppard on the Rhine in mid-afternoon, where a welcome drink awaits you.

Day 3 - Tuesday

Today we follow the Rhine downstream to Bonn, the former capital and birthplace of Beethoven.

In the afternoon we drive up the Ahr Valley to Ahrdorf in Eifel. From there we drop down into Cochem, in the charming valley of the Mosel. We follow the river to where it joins the Rhine at Koblenz.

Day 4 - Wednesday

A free day in Boppard - why not try the chair-lift or perhaps a boat trip on the Rhine?

Day 5 - Thursday

7 Day Tour: Just upstream from Boppard the river flows through one of its narrowest gorges at the famous Loreley Rock. This is the world of ‘Father Rhine’ - boat-men lured to their deaths by Rhine maidens - ghosts, dwarfs and nymphs - Wagner country. The view from the superb visitors centre is unforgettable.

6 Day Tour: As per day 6 of 7-day tour

Day 6 - Friday

7 Day Tour: Our final day in Europe and we spend the last few hours in Boppard before returning to Europoort to catch the evening sailing to Hull.

Day 7 - Saturday

We retrace our outward journey, leaving Hull after the ship docks in early morning to drive to Stranraer, from where we cross back to Belfast on the evening HSS. We are expected at the Europa Buscentre around 10.00pm.
