A day in the Borders. We travel through Moffat to Peebles, where we spend a little time before following the course of the river Tweed to Melrose, famous for its abbey.
This is Sir Walter Scott country and it is said that the horses pulling his funeral carriage stopped, of their own accord, when they reached ‘Scotts View’ of the Eldon Hills, across the Tweed Gorge. We spend the afternoon here, returning to the hotel in good time for dinner. |
