The Scottish Borders and the English Lake District are two of Britain’s most attractive regions, each with its own very distinctive scenery in autumn and spring - scenery much beloved and celebrated by Sir Walter Scott and William Wordsworth respectively.

Day 1 - Monday

We leave Belfast on the mid-day HSS and sail to Stranraer from where we drive to Dumfries, arriving at the hotel in good time to relax and settle in before dinner.

Day 2 - Tuesday

A day in the Borders. We travel through Moffat to Peebles, where we spend a little time before following the course of the river Tweed to Melrose, famous for its abbey.

This is Sir Walter Scott country and it is said that the horses pulling his funeral carriage stopped, of their own accord, when they reached ‘Scotts View’ of the Eldon Hills, across the Tweed Gorge. We spend the afternoon here, returning to the hotel in good time for dinner.

Day 3 - Wednesday

The Lake District today. We take the high Kirkston Pass into the heart of the Wordsworth’s Lake District.

We spend time in Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere, calling in Grasmere on the way back to Dumfries.

Day 4 - Thursday

After a leisurely breakfast we check out and make our way back through Southern Scotland to Stranraer, were we catch the afternoon sailing to Belfast, arriving at the Europa Buscentre around 5.00pm.
