The most famous free lights show in Britain takes on a Doctor Who theme this year when the current “Doctor” David Tenant leaves the controls of the Tardis to switch on Blackpool’s illuminations at the end of August. Other characters from the popular TV show join the electrical extravaganza this year - six miles of shimmering light, fibre optics and lasers - a long way from the original eight electric arc lamps from its beginnings in 1879.

Day 1 - Sunday

We leave Belfast on the early morning HSS to Scotland and drive south to Blackpool. Our hotel on Queen’s Promenade overlooks the sea - and the lights!

Day 2 - Monday

A free day to enjoy the resort.

Day 3 - Tuesday

We travel to Cleveley’s Market this morning with the afternoon free. There is a coach tour along the promenade to see the lights this evening.

Day 4 - Wednesday

A day in Southport with its elegant buildings and tree lined streets.

Day 5 - Thursday

An afternoon trip to the famous Oswaldtwistle Mills today with a second opportunity to see the lights by coach this evening.

Day 6 - Friday

We leave Blackpool around mid-day and catch the evening HSS from Stranraer to Belfast, arriving back at the Europa Buscentre around 10.00pm.
