Lochaber is Jacobite country - the statue of the Highlander at Glenfinnan marks the spot where Bonnie Prince Charlie began his rebellion. Fort William, at the southern end of the Caledonain Canal, is the capital of these Western Highlands and the base from where we take the Roads to the Isles - to Tobermory on Mull, to Mallaig by West Highland Steam Railway and over the spectacular bridge to the beautiful Isle of Skye.

Day 1 - Monday

We travel from Belfast to Larne and take the mid-morning P&O ferry to Cairnryan. We proceed north, passing Glasgow, and drive along the banks of Loch Lomond and through mystic Glencoe to our hotel in the centre of Fort William.

Day 2 - Tuesday
West Highland Steam Train

A short walk takes us from our hotel to the train station where we board the famous steam train for our memorable trip through Glenfinnan to Mallaig, passing over the much photographed long viaduct en-route - one of the most celebrated steam train journeys in Britain. We return to Fort William in the afternoon.

Day 3 - Wednesday
Eilean Donan & the Isle of Skye

We have an early breakfast to prepare us for a very full day today. We call briefly at the monument at Spean Bridge, just outside the town, followed by a longer stop at Eilean Donan, one of Scotland’s most recognisable castles. Later we cross the spectacular Skye Bridge on our way to our final destination, the picturesque port of Portree, where we spend the afternoon.

Day 4 - Thursday
Tobermory & Mull

We turn south today and, after a couple of short ferry crossings, travel along the north coast of the Isle of Mull to the colourful fishing village of Tobermory, with its brightly painted buildings along the superb natural harbour front. We return to the hotel in late afternoon in time for dinner.

Day 5 - Friday
Oban, Inverary & Dunoon

After breakfast we commence our journey home Our route takes us through Oban and Argyllshire, calling at historic Inveraray. From Dunoon we take the ferry across the Firth of Clyde and continue south to Cairnryan. We cross to Larne and proceed to Belfast, arriving at the Europa Buscentre around 10.30pm.
