Proud Kerrymen will tell you that their county is called “the Kingdom” because it’s the nearest place to heaven on earth. Of course they would tell you anything but you might well start to believe them when you first see those beautiful deep blue lakes, wild mountains and rugged coastlines - one thing for sure, its much easier to get to than “the heaven above!”.

In a broad valley, at the heart of the county, towering mountains surround three large lakes - Lough Leane, Upper Lake and Muckross Lake - this is Killarney. Here Muckross Estate occupies a large part of the valley and, as far back as 1861, Muckross House played host to Queen Victoria when she visited the area. Even from before her visit people have been discovering the beauty of what is today, Ireland’s best known little bit of heaven.

Day 1 - Saturday

We leave Belfast at 9.00am and drive south, making a comfort stop in mid-morning and then breaking our journey with lunch just south of Dublin. We resume our travels in the afternoon, calling briefly in Adare, one of Ireland’s most beautiful villages, before arriving at our hotel in the centre of Killarney town.

Day 2 - Sunday
Muckross House and Gardens

After yesterday’s journey we have a relaxing Sunday morning. The Tower Hotel is very conveniently located in the centre of Killarney, which makes it easy to get to know the town.

In the afternoon we pay a visit to Muckross House and Gardens, on the outskirts. The estate also includes Muckross Traditional Farm - a working farm from the 1930’s, and there are many splendid walks.

Day 3 - Monday
The Ring of Kerry

The famous Ring of Kerry is 112 miles long, usually done in an anticlockwise direction. It follows the coastline of the Iveragh Peninsula to Killorglin and along the southern shores of Dingle Bay to Caherciveen where Valentia Island is visible. It then continues through Derrynane to Kenmare, up the mountain road to Moll’s Gap and finally back to Killarney via the spectacular Ladies’ View. Two of the highlights of our tour are undoubtedly at the Gap of Dunloe and Kate Keraney’s Cottage.

Day 4 - Tuesday
The Dingle Peninsula

The Dingle Peninsula is full of superlatives - the area contains the greatest concentration of archaeological sites in Ireland and you can travel over the country's highest mountain pass to get to Dingle town - the most westerly town in Europe. The area's most famous resident is probably Fungi, a playful bottle-nosed dolphin who cavorts freely in Dingle Harbour.

It could easily be argued that the long coastline of this peninsula includes more variety than any other on the island of Ireland - Inch Strand (the film location for Ryan’s Daughter), Slea Head and the Blasket Islands are just three of many unforgettable sights.

Day 5 - Wednesday
Free Day in Killarney

Take full advantage of the hotel’s town centre location today to explore and maybe even shop.

Day6 - Thursday

We leave Killarney and “the Kingdom” this morning and retrace our outward journey, stopping again for a light lunch en-route. We arrive back at the Europa Buscentre around 6.00pm.
