Enjoy a drive through the centre of the majestic Grampian Mountains to Inverness, with a day free to explore the Highland capital before continuing as far north as you can go, to Scrabster. Sail out past the Old Man of Hoy for a tour of Orkney followed by a day on Shetland (half way between Mainland Scotland and Norway), and conclude with a return journey through Aberdeen and Dundee.

Day 1 - Tuesday

We leave Belfast on the early morning HSS and proceed north from Stranraer, through some of Scotland’s most fabulous scenery to the Highland Capital, Inverness.

Palace Hotel, Inverness *** (2 Nights)

Day 2 - Wednesday
Free day in Inverness

A full day to relax at the heart of the Highlands. The hotel is located beside the river Ness, beneath the Castle and just a short walk from the city centre.

Day 3 - Thursday
Orkney Islands

After an early breakfast we pass through the Black Isle and follow the coast to the northern port of Scrabster, from where we sail out into the North Sea. We pass the famous Old Man of Hoy and go ashore at Stromness, where we are joined by our guide for a tour of the Island. We visit ancient Scara Brae, Scapa Flow (where the German fleet was scuttled at the end of the First World War) and the fascinating Italian Chapel. We have dinner on the island before boarding ship in Kirkwall for our late night sailing to Shetland.

Overnight on-board Northlink Ship (2 Nights)

Day 4 - Friday
Shetland Islands

A full day exploring Shetland, starting at Lerwick, our port of entry. This rugged island owes as much to its Norse heritage as its Scottish but today we admire the rugged natural beauty that is simply Shetland.

On board again tonight we set sail for Aberdeen.

Day 5 - Saurday

We arrive in the port of Aberdeen in early morning and disembark after breakfast for the final leg of our trip. We travel along the east coast, through Dundee and Glasgow to Stranraer, where we catch the evening sailing and arrive back in Belfast around 10.00pm.
