Eastbourne is a unique seaside resort with an amazing range of activities, in a fantastic setting. Everything is within easy reach - the seafront promenade leads straight to the foot of the beautiful Beachy Head and the South Downs, and the town centre is just a few yards from the Victorian Pier.

It also provides an excellent base from which to explore the historic south-eastern corner of England. We visit Churchill’s home at Chartwell and the beautifully preserved Leeds Castle on the North Downs, in the heart of England’s ‘Garden County’.

Day 1 - Saturday

We catch the early morning HSS from Belfast and travel from Stranraer to the English Midlands.

Day 3 - Monday
Eastbourne & Beachy Head
We have a short coach tour of Eastbourne this morning including a visit to Beachy Head. The town’s history as a resort dates back to the latter part of the 18th century, when it was a royal favourite. A century later it was developed by two local land-owners, who built the seafront parades, parks and gardens. At the southern end of the town we find the white cliffs, rising to 575 feet and towering over the Beachy Head Lighthouse.

Day 4 - Tuesday
Free day in Eastbourne

Day 5 - Wednesday
Chartwell

After a relaxing breakfast we travel into the heart of the Weald - “The place where London ends and England can begin” - Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Here, to the east of Sevenoaks and Royal Tunbridge Wells, we visit Winston Churchill’s house at Chartwell. This was his family home from 1924 through the Second World War years until his death in 1965.

It gives an intimate picture of his career and interests with pictures, maps and personal mementoes. The house is surrounded by his terraced gardens, descending to a lake. We return to Eastbourne in early afternoon.

Day 6 - Thursday
Leeds Castle

Our final, and very full day in the south coast includes a visit to one of England’s most impressive sites, the fabulous Leeds Castle, near Maidstone.

Day 7 - Friday
Stratford-upon-Avon

We leave Eastbourne immediately after breakfast and drive north, stopping around lunch-time in Stratford-upon-Avon. We are free to explore this historic and very attractive town for a few hours before continuing to our overnight stop, back in the Midlands.

Day 8 - Saturday

We join the motorway and travel north to Stranraer, where we catch the evening HSS for the short sea crossing back to Belfast.
