For a century and a half the Crieff Hydro has welcomed visitors to this most breathtakingly beautiful part of Highland Perthshire. Set in a 900 acre estate, yet just a short walk from the town centre and around an hour’s drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh it offers the ideal atmosphere and perfect location for our visit to some of Scotland’s most important and most striking castles – Stirling, Blair Athol, Glamis and Balmoral

The tour itinerary is designed to allow time to enjoy not only the spectacular castles but also the excellent hotel facilities and the charming town of Crieff.

Day 1 - Sunday

This tour travels via Larne on the morning P&O ferry and on to the small Perthshire town of Crieff, where we check into one of Scotland’s premier ‘Hydro’ hotels. We arrive in the afternoon with time to relax and freshen up before dinner.

Day 2 - Monday
Blair Castle

With the emphasis still on relaxation we take our time over a full Scottish breakfast. Get to know the hotel and look around the town before we make the short journey north, calling first at the impressive House of Bruar for a wonderful Highland retail experience (if only to window shop and have a light lunch!). Our first castle visit is at the stunning Blair Castle, home of the Dukes & Earls of Athol and the only private army in Europe.

We spend the rest of the afternoon in nearby Pitlochry before returning to Crieff, in good time for dinner.

Day 3 - Tuesday
Balmoral Castle

A longer tour today takes us to Royal Deeside where we visit Balmoral Castle, Crathie Church, the tiny Deeside village of Kincardine O’Neill, famous for its hand-made jewellery and Banchory, the largest town in the area.

Day 4 - Wednesday
Stirling Castle

We travel through the Trossachs this morning, calling at Callander before continuing to the ancient former capital city of Stirling. We pay a visit to the castle, perched high on a rock, overlooking the city (much like Edinburgh Castle). The afternoon is free before we return to Crieff, just a half hour drive away.

Day 5 - Thursday
Glamis Castle

We turn east this morning, into neighbouring Angus to visit Glamis, the fairy-tale castle and childhood home of the late Queen Mother.

In the afternoon we return to Crieff with free time to relax and enjoy the town and the hotel.

Day 6 - Friday

An early start this morning, immediately after breakfast, in order to break our homeward journey with a few hours in Edinburgh. We then retrace our outward journey via Cairnryan and Larne, arriving back in Belfast around 10.30pm.
