We leave Belfast on the early morning HSS and travel to Stranraer. From here we hug the coast for about an hour before our first stop at Culzean Castle, on a cliff top looking out at the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig (Paddy’s Milestone). This stunning Georgian Castle was, for a time, General Eisenhower’s headquarters during World War II - today it is a National Trust property, set in a 500 acre parkland.
This is Robbie Burns Country and we call at the Burn’s National Heritage Park to visit the Tam O’Shanter Experience, Brig O’Doon and the bard’s cottage. Afterwards we proceed to our hotel, to the south-east of Glasgow, stopping briefly at the seaside resort of Largs en-route. |
