Station Facilities

Translink has invested heavily in building and refurbishing passenger facilities across the public transport network to the highest quality and with a particular emphasis on accessibility

Refurbishment of Stations

Most recently, a new and transformed Central Station in Belfast was opened on 25th March 2003.  This investment provides rail users with a state of the art station with all the features of a modern 21st century interchange:

  • a fully accessible new passenger waiting area, platform and restaurant facilities
  • the exterior of the building was renewed
  • the car park and road management system was improved.

Carrickfergus Railway Station underwent a second phase of renovation work between November 2002 and June 2003.  The latest refurbishment work includes:

  • the installation of new lifts and a new stairway
  • a subway canopy
  • CCTV to further improve accessibility and safety.

New Bus Centres

Recently, in May 2007, Strabane’s first, modern and fully accessible public transport facility was unveiled on schedule and amid much local interest.

Providing significantly improved services for passengers in the Strabane area the new depot at Bradley Way forms part of Translink’s rolling programme of investment in Ulsterbus services across the North West and wider regions.

Equipped with a modern, heated and comfortable seated waiting area, parent and baby room, cycle racks and a 43-space Park and Ride facility, the new centre is fully accessible and has been purpose built to the highest specification within a four-month timeframe. More...>>

Continual Investment

Progressive plans are in place to continue the investment programme for passenger facilities.  The NITHC/ Translink Corporate Plan 2003/04 - 2005/06 includes plans to build a new bus centre at Downpatrick and in Lisburn.
