Commuter Cards - the smart way to travel

29 January 2001

Translink are pleased to announce details of a new initiative which offers regular commuters a convenient ticket which also saves them money. The annual 'Commuter Travelcards' are a new range of integrated tickets valid for passengers  who travel by rail or bus or a combination of both.

Norman Maynes, Marketing Development Manager with Translink explained, "These value for money Travelcards offer at least 15% discount compared with the purchase of normal monthly tickets. They provide unlimited travel for twelve months between two chosen points and also the freedom of Northern Ireland network at weekends for the relevant operating company".

Norman added, "Passengers are required to fill in an application form and full payment must be made before a Travelcard is issued. A plastic card incorporating a photograph and appropriate details will then be sent to the commuter".

The introduction of the card has generated a lot of interest from employers throughout Northern Ireland who are keen to develop Green Travel Plans for their staff. Translink are geared to offer an additional discount if the Travelcards are endorsed or processed by companies on behalf of their employees.

Norman concluded, "We are confident that this new initiative will not only reduce traffic congestion and car-parking difficulties, but will actually improve our environment and make life easier for the regular traveller".
