Environmental Legislation

A number of pieces of legislation are employed in Northern Ireland to help tackle local environmental quality (LEQ) issues.

The two primary acts are:

  • The Litter (NI) Order 1994 (and its associated code of practice)
  • The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) (NI) Order 1985.

Other relevant legislation includes:

  • The Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997
  • Anti-Social Behaviour (NI) Order 2004.

Have a look at the TIDY Northern Ireland website for more information on this legislation and how it is applied.
